Minor League Recap for 8/6
Notes -- Richmond just can't turn the tide, losing their seventh straight ... Kyle Davies and Scott Thorman impressive in Greenville ... Sean White the same for the Pelicans ... Mark Jurich is coming around, and the D-Braves are rolling.
Player of the day -- Cole Armstrong (Danville) 2-4, 2 HR (5), 3 RBI, 3 R, BB
Richmond Braves 4, Norfolk Tides (NYM) 6 -- Box Score
CF Dewayne Wise hit his fourth homer of the season on a 1-for-4, one RBI night, and LF Ryan Langerhans, C J.C. Boscan, and PH James Jurries each doubled and drove in a run, but the Braves couldn't fend off the Tides, losing 6-4 Friday night in Norfolk. The R-Braves losing streak now stands at seven games.
Chuck Smith allowed four runs on five hits, three walks, and four strikeouts in four innings in the start. He was on the hook for the loss, dropping him to 5-4 with a 3.96 ERA on the season. Buddy Hernandez allowed two more runs on two hits and two strikeouts in the seventh inning.
Additional Stats:
P Kevin Barry 1.0 IP, H, SO
Record: 58-52, 1 1/2 GB of Durham

Greenville Braves 3, Mobile Bay Bears (SD) 4, 11 Inn. -- Box Score
1B Scott Thorman had a big night at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a triple, homer - his sixth - and three RBI, but an 11th inning sac fly RBI by the Bay Bears put them over the top, defeating the Braves 4-3.
Kyle Davies was sharp as ever after being skipped over on his last scheduled start. Davies allowed one run on two hits, a walk, and struck out three in five innings of work. Macay McBride and Jamie Emiliano each gave up a run in relief, and Matt Coenen (1-3) took the loss, giving up the winning run in the eleventh. Maybe he should stay in the rotation.
3B Andy Marte was 2-for-5 with a double, and SS Tony Pena added a 2-for-6 night in the loss.
Additional Stats:
RF Kelly Johnson 1-6, R, K
LF Napoleon Calzado 1-5, 2B

2B Jonathan Schuerholz paced the offense with a 2-for-3, two RBI night, including a double, and RF Carlos Duran added two RBI, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. LF Ardley Jansen also went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored.

1B Carlos Guzman was really the only Brave to have anything going offensively, cranking his 12th homer on a 2-for-3, one RBI night. CF Steve Doetsch was 1-for-2 with the other RBI, and also drew two walks. LF Josh Burrus and 2B Martin Prado had the other two hits, each going 1-for-4.
Nieves was on the hook for the loss, falling to 1-3 with a 4.68 ERA.
Additional Stats:
RF Matt Esquivel 0-4, 2 K
C Jarrod Saltalamacchia 0-4, 2 K

Danville Braves 8, Burlington Indians 0 -- Box Score
Luis Atilano allowed just four hits and struck out four in six shutout innings in the start, and Jason Paul backed him with three shutout innings of relief, giving up two hits, a walk, and a strikeout as the Braves blank the Indians 8-0. There was an adjustment period for most of this team at the beginning of the season, but they overcame their slow start and are firing on all cylinders right now.
LF Mark Jurich was the slowest to come around, but it looks like he may have finally turned the corner. Jurich was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, but it was C Cole Armstrong who stole the show on this night, cranking out two homers on a 2-for-3, three RBI night. SS/2B Mike Rozema and DH Jamie Romak each added a hit and an RBI in the big win.
Atilano runs his record to 3-0 with a 4.36 ERA with the win.
Additional Stats:
3B Van Pope 2-4, K
2B J.C. Holt 0-4, RBI
CF Carl Loadenthal 0-4, 2 K
Record: 28-17, 1 1/2 ahead of Pulaski
Streak: Won 5
Orlando Braves 13, GCL Phillies 7 -- Box Score
C Junior Guerra was 3-for-4 with three doubles and four RBI, and both CF Johan Silva (3-for-5) and Xan Barksdale (2-for-5) added two RBI each as the Braves trounce the Phillies 13-7.
It was an ugly game on the mound and in the field for both teams. Jeff Katz fared well in the start, allowing one run on two hits, three walks, and two strikeouts in four innings. Donavon Hendricks followed, allowing two runs on seven hits, a walk, and four strikeouts in three innings to pick up his first professional win.
The normally reliable Glen Richards gave up four runs - none earned - on two hits and a walk in just 2/3 of an inning. The Braves had two errors on the afternoon, but that paled in comparison to the Phillies six.
RF Raul Ortega added an RBI on a 3-for-4 day, as did 1B Manuel Rodriguez, who was 2-for-4. Both LF Ivan Terrazas and SS Eric Campbell added a hit and and knocked in a run.
Additional Stats:

Brad,
To follow up on the Jose Ascaino move, the site is showing Devin Anderson on the DL. I am cautious to bank on their site, but it shows it none the less.

Hopefully I won't bug you any more, I found a couple of others: In Danville LHP Danny Collins, C Clint Sammons, 2B J.C. Holt. In GCL C Xan Barksdale is showing up as J. Barksdale. Played at DH last night.

Mike - Not a bother at all, I need an extra set of eyes on the Depth Chart for sure!
Devin Anderson was activated a few days ago from a transaction I saw, so the Rome site may not be updted yet.
How in the heck did I not remember to add those Danville guys? Holt is one of my favorites, especially being an LSU guy.
Xan also goes by John, I believe. I need to move him off of the signed/unassigned list to Orlando.
Don't hesitate to leave me a note on any other mistakes you see. As you can tell, it is tough to keep up with! I'll try to update it tommorrow, and then we will see where we are at. Thanks again.
